Dishwasher sizes usually come in 24 inches or 60cm, and 17 inches or 45cm, or more compact sizes that do not take up too much space in the kitchen. Dishwashers can be of two types – Built-in dishwashers and standalone dishwashers.

24-inch dishwashers are the most commonly bought dishwashers as they are the perfect size for an average kitchen. They are not too big so as to crowd the kitchen and take up too much space but they are also not small enough to not be able to fit in a large load of dishes.

What is a built-in dishwasher?
Built-in dishwashers are most sought after as they fit into cabinets and efficiently use space in your kitchen. They are efficient for waste management as they have an attached waste tube directly connected to a garbage outlet. 24-inch built-in dishwashers are typically energy efficient. 24-inch built-in dishwashers are provided by various brands like GE, Bosch, Frigidaire, Thor Kitchen, and Electrolux. The average pricing for a 24-inch built-in dishwasher lies between $600-$800 depending on the brand and additional functions that the dishwasher provides.

Can you replace your existing dishwasher with another one?
The depth of the dishwasher makes a huge difference as the capacity of the dishes accommodated differ. For built-in dishwashers, it is ideal to have enough space for the dishwasher and more to secure the dishwasher firmly under the granite and around the other cabinets. Sometimes replacing 24-inch dishwashers may not be effective as depth, width and height can sometimes vary. If the width is smaller, brackets can be placed to secure the dishwasher.

Smaller dishwashers can be installed and the remaining space can be further used as cabinet or storage space. Smaller dishwashers are usually the best for apartments or condominiums. The compact dishwashers consist of various types such as countertop dishwashers, in-sink dishwashers, portable dishwashers, single drawer dishwashers, and under-sink dishwashers. Portable and countertop dishwashers are ideal for rented apartments and houses whereas built-in dishwashers are ideal for owned houses.
