Know about the different types and designs of layers in mattresses

The importance of deep and comfortable sleep is well understood by everyone. It is essential to sleep for at least 6 hours to go through the day with sufficient energy. Apart from many other factors, the surface on which we sleep can be the utmost important factor that influences the quality of sleep we usually get. Researchers and engineers have already done a lot of research on ‘sleep science’ and have recommended some particular angles of the spine and body positions that need to be maintained for better sleep and complete relaxation of the entire body.

World-renowned manufacturers of best-in-class mattresses practically implement these findings while developing their products. One such brand is Tempur Pedic Mattress that designs and develops different types of mattresses. These designs are made by considering different factors such as the support to the spine and other important body parts, comfortable cushioning through proper selection of material, providing comfort through pocket spring designs, and so on.

Most of the renowned brands offer their wide range of mattresses in three major categories based on the softness of the upper surface of the mattress.

  • Firm mattresses
  • Medium mattresses
  • Soft mattresses

Firm mattresses are designed with multiple layers of different materials inside the mattress. The major intention behind the layers is to optimize the softness and firmness or support wherever required when the person sleeps in different positions. The two uppermost layers give a combination of softness and firmness wherever required. Thus the person lying on the mattress would never feel as if thrown into a depth of sponge everywhere. The person would get a denser feel, and the softness of the top portion would ensure that there is no feeling of ‘pressure points’ due to resistance by the upper surface of the mattress.

Tempur Pedic Mattresses are designed to be comfortable in all climatic conditions. The fibers in the top cover dry off the moisture produced due to lower temperatures at night. At the same time, the layer at the bottom would ensure proper ambiance on the surface on which the mattress rests. The design of layers ensures optimum temperature at the surface of the mattress for better health. Too low or too high temperature of the surfaces of the mattress according to surrounding climate may lead to health issues for the person sleeping on the mattress. The third layer is for comfort so it would be softer while the underlying fourth layer would be a bit firmer as provides support wherever necessary. The layer at the bottom forms the base of the mattress and is designed to remove the heat away from the different layers of the mattress. This layer would be much firmer and thick providing the required supportive pad to the entire mattress.

For medium mattresses, there would be a dynamic support layer with springing action just above the base layer that would be less thick than that of a firm mattress. Thus the springing action would add to the comfort level while still providing the support. Soft mattresses would provide a pillowy feel at the top layer and also gives more depth when the person sleeps on this mattress.

Most of the top covers of various mattresses would be removable and washable so that the mattress would look clean and tidy even after years of use.
