Simple ways to clean stainless steel appliances

Stainless steel appliances are used in most kitchens. They look appealing due to their shiny metal finish. Stainless steel is also hardy and can last for years. However, it tends to get streaky and stained easily and loses its shine. So, wondering how to clean stainless steel appliances to get that bright, gleaming look? Read on.

Cleaning stainless steel appliances is not difficult, you can use a few items that are easily available in your home to give your stainless steel fridge, oven, or any other appliance a quick polish.

Stainless steel appliance cleaners
One main point to note is that stainless steel, just like wood, also has a grain. For a better shine, it is generally advised that you work with stainless steel appliance cleaners along the direction of this grain.

Here are a few simple ways to clean your stainless steel appliances and utensils. Whichever method you use, gather together all the needed supplies first, then begin the task.

Dish soap and a few drops of baby oil
Using a soft cloth, clean the appliance with dish soap, working along the grain line. Wipe it dry. Then take a microfiber cloth and put a dab of baby oil on it. Initially, just put a few drops of baby oil. You can always apply a little more oil when needed.

Using this microfiber cloth, start wiping the appliance along the direction of the grain. This will help dislodge any dirt or debris still remaining and also slowly add shine to the appliance. Do this for the entire stainless steel body of the appliance and the result will be a clean shiny appliance.

Club soda
Pour some club soda into a spray bottle and spray it on a part of your appliance. Wipe this with a soft cloth, going with the grain. Do this for the whole body of the appliance; this cleans and adds shine to the appliance.

White vinegar and mineral oil
Spray white vinegar on a soft cloth and start wiping down that stainless steel refrigerator. Follow the grain. This cleans the refrigerator of any dirt and stains. Then take some mineral oil on a microfiber cloth and begin the job of polishing the cleaned surface. While you can also use olive oil instead of mineral oil, some experts are against doing this, as olive oil and other vegetable oils can quickly turn rancid.

If you have many fingerprint marks on the appliance, first spray some glass cleaner on a cloth and rub the cloth over the marks in a circular motion. Then, use a moist cloth to clear the glass cleaner and pat it dry. After this, use your preferred method to clean the appliance.

Cleaning and maintaining stainless steel appliances at home does require some simple work. You do not always need expensive stainless steel appliance cleaners for regular cleaning. For regular cleaning, just use what you have in your home, like vinegar and baby oil. However, if you have some deep stains and marks on your stainless steel appliance, then you can try using some store-bought stainless steel appliance cleaners.
